How to Stay Safe During Warm Weather

Post

There is hot, and then there is hot! Extreme heat is a period of high heat and humidity with temperatures above 90 degrees for at least two to three days. In extreme heat your body works extra hard to maintain a normal temperature, which can lead to death. Extreme heat is responsible for the highest number of annual deaths among all weather-related hazards. Stay safe from heat-related illness this season by following these simple tips

  • Stay Hydrated – It is recommended that adults drink at least 7-8 glasses of water per day.
  • Keep Your Fashion Light – Wear loose-fitting, lightweight, and lightly colored clothing items that are made with breathable materials to allow for airflow and reflect sunlight.
  • Wear Sunscreen – This can help reduce the risk of multiple skin cancers as well as prevent sunburns.
  • Know When to be Active – Leave moderate to intense physical activities for early mornings or evenings and take it easy during midday when temperatures are highest.
