Irina
Artist
Ever since she was a child, Irina has been interested in art. She loved how she could express herself through drawing and found it comforting. However, she felt too nervous to create art because she felt she wasn’t good at it. As she aged, she would see her nephews draw and would try to copy them. Once she reached her late 30s/early 40s, Irina really embraced her desire to create art.
Drawing, ceramics, and sewing are some of Irina’s artistic interests. When she sews, she enjoys creating home goods like pillows and blankets. With ceramics, Irina likes to create masks, and when she draws, she envisions images in her mind and tries to create them from memory.
Irina likes to share her art with the world and has even sold some of her pieces. She plans to continue creating art and is thrilled with her day program, DDSO, because she can create new pieces every day.
When Irina isn’t at her day program, she enjoys reading and listening to music like the Backstreet Boys and Madonna. She also likes to help her mother with chores around the house. With the holiday season approaching, Irina is excited to celebrate Christmas with her family. As a Mexican, Irina loves to eat pozole, tamales, menudo, and empanadas, and she finds enjoying these foods with her family makes it even more special.
