Liam

Succeeding in School

Post

Liam is four years old and started school in September. It has helped him make tremendous progress in his development. Prior to school, he was non-verbal but now can speak words like “sit” and “truck” which also showcases some of his interests. Liam is infatuated with trucks and cars and any time he sees a vehicle that sparks his interests outside, he likes to check it out. He even carries a small toy truck or car with him in his hands wherever he goes.

School has also helped Liam become more social and affectionate. He is more open to communication in general and it has made his mother very hopeful for his future. Liam is open to redirection or insight from his caregivers and teachers. He likes to hang out with his peers and has flourished in a blended class setting.

In addition to the improvements he has made in school, Liam is also a member of the Karuk Tribe as he is indigenous through his father’s side. Liam’s mother, Aline, has made it a point to keep him involved in his roots, through his tribe in northern California, but also with his Brazilian heritage on Aline’s side.

As Liam continues to make progress in his development, Aline hopes to involve him in more culturally significant events. For now, the goal is to continue helping Liam grow socially and vocally.
