Luis
his love for music and his favorite church day
Luis is extremely friendly, and his positive demeanor has given him many friends. He likes to maintain his connections through online social media platforms, like Facebook. He loves to watch TV, listen to music, and go to the movie theaters. Any time he is out, Luis makes it a point to greet anyone who passes him.
One of Luis’s favorite pastimes includes going to concerts. Sometimes the concerts Luis wants to attend are out of the budget, but his mother Alma will encourage him to find tickets at a lower cost. If he finds cheaper tickets, then they will make time to go to the concert. Luis is quite savvy with finding good deals and was proud to find concert tickets to see Maluma, a Colombia artist, for $35! Luis doesn’t discriminate with his music interests – he welcomes all musical opportunities because going to concerts makes him feel happy.
Attending mass allows Luis to socialize with his community and listen to the music they play in church. Luis will often push his mother to stay in church longer because he enjoys being surrounded by his friends. One of his favorite church days happens on December 11, which is the day before an important Catholic Mexican holiday called Día de la Virgen de Guadalupe, or the Day of the Virgin Guadalipe on December 12. Luis tried to stay in church all day and night because he loves to watch the singing and dancing to celebrate the holiday.
Alma shared how amazing Alta California Regional Center has been for her and Luis. She feels blessed to have a wonderful Service Coordinator and feels appreciative of the help she has received. Luis shows his appreciation for the help he receives through a big smile and a cheery disposition.
Luis and Alma hope to continue going to more concerts. For Alma, it is important that Luis goes with her everywhere and is seen with and interacts with the community. She understands the positive impact it has on Luis to be surrounded by people who show him love and compassion.
