Matthew discovered his passion for writing in 2013 while in high school after participating in a writing contest. In three days, he wrote 11 pages and received an A+ for his work and found something that makes him happy to do. Matthew is fascinated by history, and science fiction (sci-fi) and will frequently write about historical events in a fiction-based story.

When Matthew includes historical events or places in his books, it is important for him to honor the place that he writes about. He does this by being descriptive with his words and wants to really immerse the reader in the world. For Matthew, this is no issue. He says that being autistic allows him to visualize himself in the book as he writes it, and this helps him describe the story in a way that can engage the reader. He also handwrites each book because he feels this helps him connect with the story better, and once completed, he types them on a computer to deliver final edits.

After over a decade of writing, Matthew has completed a series of books that he plans to self-publish called Sorcerer’s Chronicle. The books follow the story of a young man who is trying to defeat the darkness that has overtaken the country’s land. Matthew hopes to have these books and more. He plans to write in bookstores one day. For now, he is taking steps to enroll himself in a writing class at California State University, Sacramento, to improve his writing skills, and continue to take steps to self-publish his current books.

When he isn’t writing, Matthew works full-time at Panera Bread and enjoys his job. After three years, he still feels pleased with his job and enjoys the work-life balance he has cultivated. Matthew also enjoys traveling and has been to countries like Germany, France, and Canada and has traveled to multiple states in the US. He is considering his next big adventure and hopes to go somewhere new soon.

Matthew hopes that he can inspire other people with autism to be themselves, and to pursue the things that make them interested and excited. Writing has been such an amazing outlet for Matthew, and he wants others to find something that ignites passion for them.
