Alta California Regional Center Workshops
Alta California Regional Center (ACRC) provided workshops and webinars to staff, parents, and vendors of ACRC about topics that matter to them. Examples of the workshop topics provided include legal planning for an adult child, understanding Home and Community-Based Services Waiver (also known as the Medicaid Waiver), understanding the Individual Education Program (IEP) in English and Spanish, In home support services (IHSS) in English and Spanish, culturally sensitive needs assessment and interviewing for service coordinators.

Threshold Language Translations
A grant from the Disparity Funds Program allowed ACRC to translate important resource materials into 8 different threshold languages including Arabic, Hmong, Punjabi, Russian, Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, and Spanish. Cultural Competency Trainings
ACRC provided a foundational training to service coordinators and vendors on cultural competency and proficiency. This was followed by culture-specific trainings to promote sensitivity to the multi-ethnic communities served by ACRC. The presentations on each of the trainings provided are below.

Enhanced Respite
This project aimed to increase access to respite services to meet specific cultural and linguistic needs of consumers and their families. ACRC partnered with UCP Family Respite and Tricounty Respite Care to collaborate on the implementation of the project. ACRC conducted focus group discussions with the Hispanic-Latinx, Hmong, Punjabi, and Slavic families. The grant also allowed for the creation of family respite guide translated in the target populations’ languages.

Interpreting System
The Electronic Interpreting system purchased through grant funds allows for multiple people within a group setting to hear an oral translation of a presentation by an interpreter. The system has 4 transmitters and 16 receivers. The system has been utilized during ACRC’s annual meeting regarding expenditures allowing the translation of the presentation to Spanish and Vietnamese participants. The system has also been used for other ACRC activities including Self-determination trainings.
Targeted Outreach
The Targeted Outreach/Information Session grant allowed ACRC to conduct extensive information sessions to Hispanic-Latinx communities as well as the Hmong communities. ACRC also attended many culture-specific events such as the Hmong New Year, the Aloha Festival, and the MLK 365 Diversity Fair. ACRC partnered with the Health Education Council, the Ventanilla de Salud, the WeEmbrace foundation and many other healthcare sponsored diversity fairs. This grant project also allowed for topic-specific outreach provided to English-speaking families and the monolingual families served by ACRC.
