Nancy
Service Coordinator
Nancy has had a robust career that enabled her to experience and serve people from all walks of life. She began her education with a Bachelor’s in journalism and minored in criminal justice. Nancy continued her education with a Master’s from Arizona State University in criminal justice. During the time she studied, Nancy also served as an intern parole agent where she learned about prisoner safety and security, along with how to handle dangerous situations. She enjoyed the shadowing opportunity it provided her and piqued her interest to continue.
For many years, Nancy worked in the criminal justice system. She served at Sacramento County Juvenile Hall, the California Youth Authority, and worked in Arizona as a probation officer for a specialized caseload of dependent delinquents in need of rehabilitation. After working in Arizona, Nancy decided to move back to California in 2008 and started at Alta California Regional Center (ACRC).
Prior to her transition at ACRC, Nancy was inspired by a friend who worked at the regional center. Nancy was always interested in case management and enjoyed the puzzle component to it that involved helping clients find the right services. It reminded her of her time as a probation officer, where she knew she wanted to help people get a second chance to succeed in the community with the appropriate guidance. Nancy worked with adult clients at ACRC until she transitioned to a vendor of the regional center, Trust Management Services (TMS).
At TMS, she helped clients with money management related to Social Security and Supplemental Security Income benefits. She would continue to serve the community in various ways at a couple of different organizations, but she would constantly be interfacing with regional center clients. So, she came back to ACRC at the height of the pandemic, in 2020.
Nancy loves the team that she works with and loves helping adult clients find ways to succeed and thrive in the community. One of her favorite client success stories involved a man who had no self-esteem and was very inactive. She encouraged and motivated him and equipped him with a knowledge of resources and access to services. He is now flourishing with a job, taking classes, a beautiful romantic relationship, and working on getting his driver’s license.
Nancy feels satisfied with where she is at. She feels fulfilled helping clients of the regional center and enjoys taking it day by day. Nancy is excited to see more of the clients she serves progress in their lives and goals.
